School News

Pulaski County Schools is committed to helping students succeed through its Extended School Services (ESS) program. ESS provides additional instructional time outside the regular school day to support students who are academically at-risk.

Program Highlights:

  • Eligibility: Students are referred based on academic need. ESS targets students who are unlikely to achieve proficiency or transition successfully without additional instructional time and support.
  • Services Offered: Tutoring and academic intervention activities are tailored to individual student needs.
  • Schedule: ESS sessions are held before or after school, on weekends, or during school breaks. Services are provided outside regular instructional hours unless a daytime waiver has been approved by the Kentucky Department of Education.
  • Cost: There is no cost to families. ESS is funded through the Kentucky Department of Education.

Parent Communication: Parents will be notified if their child is recommended for ESS participation. The notice will include the reason for referral, the services offered, and how progress will be monitored. If a parent disagrees with the recommendation, they may request reconsideration through the school’s ESS coordinator.

Contact Information: For more information, please contact your child’s school, and ask to speak with the School ESS Coordinator.

2025 Work Ethic Seal

Pulaski, Somerset, and Southwestern High School’s Work Ethic Seal Recipients celebrated their 25th Work Ethic Seal at the Center for Rural Development on April 22nd.

Part of the mission of education is to prepare students for the transition from school to work and life beyond the classroom.  A strong work ethic is essential to our students if they are to secure and maintain successful, meaningful employment.

In an effort to meet this need, the Pulaski County Educational Consortium in joint effort with the Pulaski County School System, the Somerset Independent School System implement a special program in which students who meet specific criteria related to work ethic and soft skills will receive a special seal on their high school diploma and transcript.

This year marked 25 years of the Work Ethic Seal Program in the Pulaski and Somerset Schools.  That is over decade of students who have been trained, encouraged, and recognized for meeting the required criteria.

Students must meet the following criteria to qualify for the work ethic seal:

·         Must maintain a minimum of average daily attendance of 98%Must have 4 or fewer tardies

·         Must have no more than 1 disciplinary referral
