SWHS Student Awarded Semifinalist in Essay Contest

Each spring, the Ayn Rand Institute holds an essay contest inviting students across the world to write thought-provoking essays in response to some of the late author’s novels. For several years now, Honors English II Students at Southwestern High School have been reading one of Ayn Rand’s most famous novels, Anthem, which has provided students with multiple opportunities for in-depth and insightful discussions and assignments in subjects such as government, ethics, equity vs. equality, free-will, and love. Through this contest, students not only have the opportunity to publish their work and to win cash prizes, but to practice the process of writing college-like essays in preparation for the rigorous coursework that is to come.

This contest is considered one of the largest in the world, receiving more than 14,000 submissions each year from more than one hundred countries across the globe. To be granted an award in this competition ranks students in the top five percent of all essays received. Trystan Bullock, a SWHS student in Ms. Littrell’s English II Class has received this prestigious recognition in the 2017 essay contest. Trystan was granted one of the semifinalist awards.  Furthermore, Trystan will be given cash prizes for his hard work and skill. The Warrior Nation is very proud of this student!
